Intertwined: Annesta Le
Curated by Luis Martin
Saturday, November 15th 6-9PM
Intertwined, by Annesta Le, is on view from November 15 to December 31, 2014 at Parenthesis Art Space in Brooklyn, New York. The exhibition will showcase five neon pieces made from phosphor color-coated circular glass tubes, noble gas, and wire. Each piece is the product of Le’s organic process of hand-bending glass tubes of neon light into complementary shapes with congruent angles and twists, and then arranging them based on color, form, and their interplay with one another. The resultant compositions are intense, energetic, and interconnected, highlighting the spontaneity and uniqueness of Le’s work.
Although Annesta Le’s work spans but a few years, she has developed an intuitive style and self-awareness in her process and product with both abstract painting on canvas and neon pieces. Her art is dynamic in its creation – an open, experimental, unpredictable method balancing the intentional and unintentional. Subsequently, each piece becomes a life form unto itself, enabling the viewer to become entangled viscerally and emotionally. Such is the case with Intertwined as the sinuating tubes of neon capture the empathy of the viewer.
Influenced by the tumult of her earlier life, Annesta Le’s experimentation with neon explores and embodies a dichotomous pull of forces. Because of the intensity and effect of neon light itself, Le purposely chooses colors and hues that do not overpower in Intertwined – a soft yellow and a warm white evoke a quiet, yet not weak or subtle, warmth and glow. Interspersed and dancing around the yellow and white are bold pops of blue and red that enliven the centerpiece of the exhibition. The outcome is fluid, codependent forms that are at once unapologetic and simultaneously compassionate, forging a creative path that is distinctively Annesta Le.
